Jelenia Góra criminal investigators identified and then detained a 44-year-old resident of Karkonosze County suspected of raising a false bomb alarm. – On 11 January 2023, at approximately 10:20 a.m., the duty officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra received a report that an explosive device had been planted in one of Jelenia Góra’s shopping centres. He immediately notified the facility’s administrator of the threat, and a non-permanent bomb reconnaissance and pyrotechnics team from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra, accompanied by a dog trained to detect the odour of explosive materials, was sent to the scene – reports Police Superintendent Edyta BagrowskaEdyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters. – Jelenia Góra firefighters also arrived at the scene.
Around 560 people were in the shopping centre at the time, but the administrator did not decide to evacuate them. Spokeswoman: – Police bomb technicians searched the area and found no explosive device. It turned out to be a false alarm.
The person suspected of causing all the confusion turned out to be a 44-year-old resident of Karkonosze County, who was detained less than an hour later. The man admitted making the false report. He was under the influence of alcohol at the time. (The test showed nearly 0.5 per mille.)
The 44-year-old was taken to police custody. On 12 January, he was brought before the prosecutor’s office, where he was charged. The man, who was placed under police supervision, now faces a sentence of between six months and as many as eight years in prison.
