It is now known that a 49-year-old woman from Szczecin and Police, who most recently lived in Leśna (Lubań County), was killed under a train in Okmiany. The deceased was positively identified by her sister.
Cause of death? Head, chest and limb injuries. The case is still being clarified.
Let us recall. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 3, in Okmiany. At around 5:00 a.m., the woman entered a closed, guarded railway crossing and was hit by a PKP Intercity train travelling from Zgorzelec to Warszawa Wschodnia.
The victim suffered very serious injuries and died at the scene.
The investigation into the fatal collision with a pedestrian at the railway crossing is being conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Złotoryja. Prosecutors and police officers, as well as a road traffic expert, were present at the scene of the tragedy.
Preliminary findings? Investigators have surveillance footage showing that the warning lights were on and the barriers were lowered at the time of the incident. What is more, the photographs also show the woman passing under the barriers and entering the closed railway crossing.
The driver of the Intercity company’s train was sober. It is worth emphasising that the trains of the aforementioned company do not stop at this location, unlike those operated by Koleje Dolnośląskie. Therefore, the train was travelling at high speed.
