The wall surrounding the Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury im. Stanisława Wyspiańskiego in Bolesławiec has never been more colorful. This is thanks to Andy Bass, a painter from the United Kingdom who is running the “And the Walls Will Glow...” classes in Bolesławiec. “We asked the children taking part in the workshops to tell us about their role models,” says Agnieszka Kisielowska from the MDK. The children then had to tell a story featuring this role model, transfer the story onto paper, and then paint it on the wall.
“I came to Bolesławiec because my wife is running workshops here. And since I am an artist, I decided that I could also run art classes,” Andy Bass says with a smile. “During these workshops, I am trying to discover Bolesławiec’s cultural identity. Besides, it is fascinating to observe this mural taking shape.”
The final form of the mural will be revealed on Saturday, July 3. The official opening will take place at 5:00 p.m.. What is more, the initiative will continue. “This wall is about 100 meters of gray surface that is meant to stop being gray. We want the MDK to be associated with a warm and joyful atmosphere,” explains Agnieszka Kisielowska.
Meanwhile, at 6:00 p.m., an exceptional performance will take place in the Kościuszki housing estate, marking the culmination of workshops led by Natalii Castro Bass, a journalist who has traveled the world for many years, creating socially engaged theater projects.
The “Kościuszki Street” project is an attempt to bring theater to the people. “Natalii and I worked with children and young people. We tried to discover their talents, bring out the best in them, and create a performance on that basis,” Agnieszka explains. “One day, Renata Kozłowska brought us her poems. Natalii said that this was exactly what had been missing from the performance. Renata’s poetry brought everything together.”
Information for those who would like to attend the “Kościuszki Street” performance: at 5:30 p.m., a special bus will depart from the District Court building, with room for 70 passengers.
