– Before the District Court in Jelenia Góra, a verdict was handed down in the case against Paweł M., charged by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra with murdering a woman in Karpacz in November 2019 – prosecutor Tomasz Czułowski, spokesperson for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, reports.

The crime took place on November 16, 2019, at one of the hotels in Karpacz, where a conference for the optical industry was being held. Among those attending was Monika L., a representative of one of the companies.

Spokesperson: – That day, Paweł M., the woman’s acquaintance and former partner, also came to Karpacz. During a conversation in a hotel room, Paweł M. began strangling the victim with his hands and then with an iron cord, causing her death. He then hid the woman’s body on the balcony and left the hotel premises.

The police established the suspect’s whereabouts and arrested M. He was staying at a motel in the West Pomeranian region.

Investigators:

After being brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, Paweł M. was charged with murder, which he confessed to. He also gave explanations indicating jealousy as the motive.

During the investigation, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra gathered extensive evidence, securing recordings from the hotel’s surveillance system, questioning other conference participants as well as the victim’s family and acquaintances, and obtaining expert opinions, including in the field of forensic medicine.

In February 2020, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra filed an indictment in the case with the Court.

On October 28, 2022, the District Court issued a verdict finding Paweł M. guilty of the crime with which he had been charged and sentencing him to 25 years in prison. It also awarded PLN 200,000 in compensation to the victim’s family.
