The Bolesławiec municipal cemetery covers 12.5 hectares. More than 25,000 deceased people are buried there in over 17,000 graves. In 2021, 653 people were buried at our cemetery, exactly 100 more than in 2020.
How many funerals are held each day?
There are days when as many as five farewell ceremonies are held. There are also days when not a single one takes place.
What is the procedure for closing a grave?
The cemetery administration initiates the closure procedure when a grave is neglected and the required fee has not been paid. First, the grave is marked with a notice asking visitors to contact the cemetery management. Photographic documentation is also prepared, and a list of the graves subject to this procedure is posted on the notice board.
In practice, only graves without headstones are closed—those that have gone unpaid for many years and are not visited by anyone.
Who can pay the fee for a grave?
Anyone. It can be someone unrelated to the deceased.
Are urn burials popular in Bolesławiec?
Yes, increasingly so. As early as 2020, they accounted for 52 percent of all burials. It is currently estimated that the figure is as high as 57 percent.
Why are more and more people choosing urn burials? There are probably various reasons, but the financial one is important. The costs are lower in this case because the fee is paid only once.
Attention!
If you are going to the cemetery, be careful. Theft is becoming more frequent. People steal anything they can; candles, flowers and decorations go missing.
