Traffic police stopped the driver of a Citroen vehicle for inspection. – The inspection would have ended quickly if the officers had not smelled alcohol on the driver while talking to him – reports asp. szt. Justyna Bujakiewicz-Rodzeń, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubań.
The test showed that the 33-year-old had more than one per mille of alcohol in his system. The spokeswoman:
Knowing the consequences he faced, the driver decided to resolve the matter in another way. In exchange for the officers abandoning their official actions, he promised to provide them with a financial benefit of 1,000 or 2,000 zlotys.
And she adds:
He added that they would only have to drive to the suspect’s place of residence to collect the money. The officers informed the resident of Bolesławiec County that he was being detained on suspicion of committing an offense and immediately notified the duty officer at the Lubań unit of the entire situation.
Our fellow county resident spent the night in police custody and the following day was taken to the Lubań prosecutor’s office, where he was charged with bribery and driving while intoxicated.
The prosecutor ordered bail of PLN 5,000 and police supervision combined with a ban on driving any motor vehicles. The resident of our county now faces up to 10 years in prison.
