The incident took place last Friday, shortly before midnight. – The duty officer at the Chojnów Police Station was notified of a dangerous incident. During a ride on the Nowa Wieś Legnicka–Chojnów route, a taxi passenger began punching the driver all over his body. Fearing for his life and health, the driver stopped the car in Chojnów and quickly got out. At that point, the attacker took the place behind the wheel of the Toyota taxi and drove away – reports Junior Asp. Przemysław Ratajczyk of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
He adds:
Immediately after receiving the report of the robbery, Chojnów police officers went to the scene to begin actions aimed at arresting the perpetrator as quickly as possible. After contacting the victim, it turned out that the officers already knew the identity of the person responsible for the attack on the taxi driver, because several minutes earlier the taxi driver and passenger had been checked by the same officers, who had been sent to intervene in connection with the robbery.
Fortunately, the taxi driver was not seriously injured. The 36-year-old attacker was caught in Złotoryja County, where he lost control of the stolen vehicle and ended up in a ditch after failing to adjust his speed to the road conditions.
The car and all the items inside it, with a total value of PLN 100,000, were fully recovered. The 36-year-old faces up to 12 years in prison for robbery.
