– On Wednesday, after 5:00 p.m., the duty officer at the Zgorzelec police station was notified of a road incident that occurred at the intersection of Bolesławiecka and Wrocławska streets in Zgorzelec. According to the report, a passenger car hit a cyclist – reports Inspector Agnieszka Goguł, press officer for the Commander of the County Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec.
Emergency services, including a traffic patrol, were dispatched to the scene immediately.
Police determined that the 65-year-old driver of a Ford failed to yield the right of way to a 60-year-old cyclist who was travelling properly. A collision occurred, injuring the cyclist. She was taken to hospital.
Officers: – Both women are residents of Zgorzelec County and were sober at the time of the incident.

We remind you that causing a road accident, in which the injured person did not suffer serious harm as referred to in Article 156 § 1 of the Criminal Code, is punishable under Article 177 of the Criminal Code by up to 3 years’ imprisonment. In the event of an accident resulting in death or serious bodily harm, the prison sentence is much higher and may be as high as 8 years.
And adds:
However, when the person responsible for the accident was intoxicated or under the influence of narcotic drugs, the court may impose up to 12 years’ imprisonment and a life-long ban on driving motor vehicles. In addition, the offender must reckon with financial consequences as part of compensating for the damage. The offender’s entire property may be subject to enforcement, and if there is no separation of property, the property of their spouse as well, including real estate and income.
