During the Bolesławiec City Council session, a question was asked about potassium iodide. Mayor Piotr Roman:

Bolesławiec, like all municipalities in Poland, is equipped with this substance, which protects against the effects of radiation in the event of a nuclear threat. This substance is already at the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service.

He added: – The distribution method is to be discussed at a meeting with the voivode.

He also noted: – There are many possible distribution methods. The point is for this substance to reach everyone and for there to be no abuse.

As the Ministry of the Interior and Administration recently reported:

As part of crisis management and civil protection measures, in connection with media reports concerning fighting in the area of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, tablets containing potassium iodide were delivered last week to district headquarters of the State Fire Service. This is a standard procedure provided for by law and applied in the event of a potential radiation threat.

At the same time, we inform you that there is currently no such threat, and the situation is being continuously monitored by the Polish National Atomic Energy Agency. Services responsible for the security of the state remain on constant alert, and an adequate supply of potassium iodide has been secured for every Polish citizen.

It should be emphasized that taking potassium iodide prophylactically on one’s own initiative is discouraged by doctors and specialists.
