Our reader always showers before entering the pool area and after getting out of the water. He cares about hygiene and cannot imagine entering the pool dirty and sweaty and swimming. When he showers, he takes off his swimming trunks. It is natural to him. Recently, he encountered an unpleasant situation. This is how he described it in a letter to Orka’s management:

On Saturday, a cleaner entered the shower room and pointed out to me that the shower area is not a nudity zone and that I had to get dressed. She did this because of a complaint from a customer who did not wish to see nudity.

Because this situation had occurred for the second time, I checked the water park regulations. I found no ban on showering naked. I compared ORKA’s regulations with those of other cities and likewise found no such ban. I also found no violation of a social norm in this matter in legislation or case law.

Therefore, I ask for a clear answer to the question: is it permissible to shower naked or not?

It also seems to me that the cleaner should not have entered the men’s shower room and reprimanded a person under the shower, but should instead have referred the person outraged by the nudity to someone authorized to make decisions.

I would emphasize that the showers are divided by gender, and that the greatest source of shame for me would be entering the pool without washing my entire body—with dirty legs, greasy hair, smelly armpits and groin, and fecal residue between the buttocks.

I await your response.

After one day, he received an official response from Orka:

We sincerely apologize to you for the behavior of our employee and for the inconvenience you experienced on our part.

You are right; there is no such ban on our part.

We promise that such a situation will not happen again.

We greatly appreciate your approach to hygiene when using the swimming facility.

Thank you for the information.

It is good that Orka sided with the customer and pool hygiene. The reader accepted the apology and considers the matter resolved.

What is your opinion on showering naked?
