Waldemar Kraska, deputy health minister, was a guest on Program Pierwszy Polskiego Radia. Asked about the growing number of SARS-CoV-2 infections, the deputy minister replied:
We can see that the increase is not very large. The data we received yesterday show that the “R” factor is falling. It is now 1.3. What is worrying is that one-third of the tests we perform are positive. Unfortunately, the number of hospitalizations is also rising.
Will restrictions return in the autumn?
W. Kraska: – There will most likely be recommendations, which we are also directing at-risk groups to follow at this time. If we are in a place where it is difficult to maintain distance, such as an airport or on public transport, let’s put on a mask. It costs us nothing.
What about monkeypox?
As the deputy minister reported, 50 cases of the disease have currently been confirmed in Poland (100 have been reported), and approximately 20–30 people are hospitalized. The ministry official added that those infected experience the disease relatively mildly.
