The incident took place on Sunday, 3 July, in Szczytnica. A reader wrote to us on social media:

An hour-long chase, the whole estate involved, and they were caught.

And explained:

The thieves were stealing fuel. We noticed it and started chasing them; then the police arrived.

He also added: – The men were in a car and did not manage to take it.

The police confirm that two perpetrators of the fuel theft were arrested. Activities are ongoing, so for now officers are not providing details. However, we have established that the assistance of Szczytnica residents was valuable:

Residents indicated where the thieves had last been seen and what they looked like.

Thanks to the vigilance and involvement of residents of one of the localities in Warta Bolesławiecka commune, police officers arrested two men suspected of breaking into the fuel tank of a truck and stealing fuel.

The crime took place yesterday evening. After 8 p.m., the perpetrators drove their car near a parked truck. They broke into the tank and began draining the fuel.

They were then scared off by people approaching who noticed the suspects near the truck. Among others, the driver of the vehicle arrived at the scene of the break-in and found that some fuel had already been drained from the vehicle's tank. The police were notified of the incident. The perpetrators left their car at the scene.

Officers from the Police Station in Kruszyn gathered information from people near the scene of the theft and successively checked locations indicated as the direction in which the criminals had fled.

One of the leads produced the desired result. The wanted men, as if nothing had happened, were walking along the road between the localities. They were arrested. Both are residents of Gromadka commune, aged 21 and 32. They confessed to the act with which they were charged and explained that they needed the fuel for the car they were travelling in.
