Border guards selected a passenger car for inspection on one of the roads in Jelenia Góra County. – During the inspection, the Border Guard officers were drawn to plastic bags filled with smoking tobacco. It turned out that the 61-year-old driver was carrying a total of 20 bags of ready-to-smoke tobacco and 9,200 cigarettes without excise stamps – reports Major Joanna Konieczniak, press spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit.
She adds: – Border Guard officers also searched the 61-year-old’s place of residence, where they uncovered a further 3,000 cigarettes without Polish excise stamps and 1,200 cigarettes bearing Belarusian excise stamps.
The illegal goods, with a market value of PLN 15,000, were secured, and criminal proceedings were also initiated. The 61-year-old faces a substantial fine.

Since the beginning of this year, Border Guard officers from Jelenia Góra have uncovered and seized excise goods worth nearly PLN 2.7 million. Had the illegal goods seized by the Border Guard officers entered the black market, the State Treasury would have lost almost PLN 3.5 million in unpaid taxes.
