A Reader called us, concerned that this would be a “completely new investment” and, consequently, that the existing pools would be demolished. Meanwhile, according to the person who contacted us, things are done differently throughout Germany: some of the pools are left in place and covered pools or indoor facilities are added to them.
Our interviewee is concerned that this investment will not only contribute to the further spread of concrete in the City of Ceramics, but will also make parking an even greater problem. The Reader wonders whether it would not be better to build the facility somewhere else.
The person who contacted us is also concerned that the new facility will lack spaces for older people and that there will be no “quiet area”. She would like the facility’s roofs to be covered with vegetation, supposedly as is the case with the swimming pool in Zittau.
A Reader also wrote to us:
I often walk there (along nomen omen Spacerowa Street – ed. istotne.pl) and came across “istotne” (the newspaper), which published a photo of the design. I am concerned about the design of the parking lots next to the former ticket gates. It is clear that the trees are absent from the design (already a century old, but charming and also providing shade from the heat), and parking lots will be built instead of the trees.
Agnieszka Gergont, press spokesperson for the Bolesławiec City Office, reassures residents: there will be more parking spaces at the facility, while preserving the existing trees.
Could the new water park have been built elsewhere?
No, because the condition of the pools on Spacerowa Street was such that the technical options for renovating them had already been exhausted.
Will there be green roofs?
It is not known yet. The work is currently at the functional and utility programme stage; there is no documentation yet.
