The oratory competition conducted for years by teacher Monika Kalinowska (1976–2021) is addressed to students in grades 7 and 8 of primary school and grades 1 and 2 of secondary school. As part of the competition, participants deliver a three-minute speech on a topic falling within the “The World Around Me” category, addressed to their peers and drawing attention to phenomena they observe that are worth popularising or are inappropriate.
The aim of the competition was to promote the development of skills in expressing one’s own views and to prepare young people to participate in public life.
Honorary patronage over the competition was provided by the Mayor of Bolesławiec, the Polish Language Council at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences
and the Lower Silesian Superintendent of Education.
This year’s competition winners were:
- 1st place Miłosz Wójcik from Primary School No. 4 in Bolesławiec. He received the “Demosthenes 2022” statuette and the title of Lower Silesian Master of the Polish Language
- 2nd place Katarzyna Czarna from the Public Primary School of the Piarist Order in Bolesławiec

This year, for the first time and outside the competition, the winners of the Young Demosthenes competition “You Too Can Become a Young Demosthenes – Bolesławiec Student, Master of the Polish Language” performed: Antoni Blatkiewicz, Emila Jakubczyc and Adrian Małoszyc from Primary School No. 2 in Bolesławiec. Taking into account the standard of the youngest participants’ performances, the organisers plan to expand the competition’s target group to include students in grades 3–6 of primary school.
