The celebrations of Polish Flag Day in the Bolesławiec garrison began with a ceremony raising the national flag in Bolesławiec’s market square. The guard of honour and flag-bearing detachments, accompanied by the municipal orchestra, marched through the city streets. The standard-bearer unit of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade raised the national flag in the square in front of the town hall. Next, Mayor Piotr Roman told the city’s residents about the history of the establishment of the white-and-red flag and its significance for Poles.
At the end of the ceremony, the municipal orchestra performed a selection of patriotic pieces. The ceremony, attended by the city and county authorities, veterans’ organisations, representatives of the uniformed services, scouts and young people, attracted many residents of Bolesławiec. Everyone took part in the ceremony with due respect and concentration; especially for younger people, it was a history lesson.
On 3 May, the Brigade’s soldiers, together with veterans, administrative authorities and city residents, commemorated the anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of 3 May. A Holy Mass attended by the military guard of honour of the 23rd Artillery Brigade was celebrated at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bolesławiec.
