The cross-border project involves Powiat Bolesławiecki together with Gmina Miejska Bolesławiec and its foreign partner, Powiat Bautzen. The project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and aimed at improving the conditions and quality of education and adapting it to the conditions of the cross-border labor market, began in 2018 with a major renovation of Powiatowy Zespół Szkół i Placówek Specjalnych in Bolesławiec. The outdated building in the center of Bolesławiec was transformed into a functional and attractive school.
On September 2, 2019, the modernized special-needs school in Bolesławiec was officially opened, and it was time to fill the ambitious investments with cultural, artistic and sports activities. As part of the international meetings, the following were organized:
- 10 theatre workshops,
- 10 vocal workshops,
- 9 ceramics workshops,
- 9 intercultural workshops,
- 3 history workshops,
- “Theatre Meetings” at the Old Theatre in Bolesławiec,
- “Ceramics Meetings” at the Museum of Ceramics and BOK – MCC in Bolesławiec,
- “Intercultural Workshops” at BOK – MCC,
- “Song Meetings” at MDK in Bolesławiec,
- “History Meetings” in the urban spaces of both partner cities.
The global pandemic did not stop the project participants. The students held rehearsals in their respective countries, communicating only remotely. Sports activities were also included. As part of the project, an “Olympics for students from mainstream and special-needs schools” was organized.
The project is ongoing. Currently, training sessions for educators and teachers, as well as psychological and pedagogical classes, are taking place. The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2022.
