On Thursday, June 2, county exercises for fire protection units took place at AutoPort in Godzieszów. They were organized by the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec.

The exercise was intended to test the assumptions of the County Rescue Plan and develop methods of cooperation between the services working together with the municipal and county crisis management teams.

County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec on the exercise:

During the first exercise scenario, which took place in the storage room of the ESA DAF truck service, firefighters were tasked with evacuating two people from the smoke-filled room and the building’s roof, and extinguishing a fire inside the warehouse. In the second scenario, two passenger cars and a minibus were involved in an accident. One of the passenger cars was electric.

Due to the number of people traveling in the vehicles, the incident was classified as a mass-casualty event. Firefighters secured the scene, gained access to the injured using hydraulic tools, and evacuated the injured—eight people—to a safe area.

Triage was carried out there, as is done in incidents involving a large number of injured people, when the demand for qualified first aid and medical rescue procedures exceeds the capabilities of the rescue entities present at the scene.

Bolesławiec firefighters add:

As part of improving cooperation with other services, an emergency medical team and the police took part in the exercise. Fire protection units from Bolesławiec County participated: OSP Nowogrodziec, Czerna, Wykroty, Gierałtów and JRG Bolesławiec; and from the neighboring Lubań County: OSP Leśna, Siekierczyn, Pisarzowice, Henryków, Olszyna and JRG Lubań.

The exercise was observed by Bolesławiec County Starost Tomasz Gabrysiak, who defines the tasks of the national rescue and firefighting system within our county, coordinates its operation, supervises the performance of its duties and, in situations involving extraordinary threats to life, health or the environment, directs the system.
