– On Sunday, May 22, the duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski received a report of an exhibit being stolen from the museum room of a disused mine in the municipality of Mirsk – reports Sergeant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer for the Lwówek police.
Officers determined that the offense occurred during an organized tour of the mine in question. One of the tour participants became interested in the “gold” on display. Taking advantage of the guide’s inattention, he took the exhibit with him.
The problem was that it was not gold, but pyrite, which is indeed sometimes called gold. Except that it is “fool’s gold,” because its appearance closely resembles that of the precious metal.
The 27-year-old resident of Lubin County was detained, and the glittering stone was returned to its place.
The spokesperson said: – In connection with the offense committed, the officers referred the case to court so that the perpetrator of the theft could be punished.
