Zgorzelec police officers, while patrolling Bogatynia on April 29 during the night, noticed a Mercedes on Pocztowa Street. The driver’s manner of driving aroused the officers’ suspicions, so they signaled him to stop.
– However, he accelerated and continued driving toward the border. By failing to comply with the applicable speed limits, he was creating a danger in road traffic – reports Staff Sergeant Aleksander Litwin of the Zgorzelec police. – The officers tried to block the driver’s escape route, but he repeatedly changed lanes, cutting them off.
When the officers drew level with the vehicle they were pursuing, the driver suddenly turned, hitting the Mercedes against the police car and thus attempting to force the police vehicle off the road.
At one point, the fugitive left the road and ran from the car into the forest. Unfortunately, the officers were unable to arrest him at that time.
Nevertheless, the 44-year-old man will not avoid the consequences: he was arrested two days later and charged with causing an immediate danger of a disaster in land traffic and failing to stop for a road inspection.
The resident of Zgorzelec County admitted guilt. He now faces up to eight years in prison.
