Unfortunately, another operation codenamed “Speed”, conducted by Lower Silesian police officers on 27 April, showed that nearly 80% of more than 1,600 inspected drivers were driving significantly too fast. What is more, 26 people lost their driving licences for exceeding the permitted speed by more than 50 km/h in a built-up area. Officers appeal for sensible and cautious driving.
The main aim of yesterday’s operation conducted by Lower Silesian police officers was to prevent road accidents by enforcing compliance with speed limits and other traffic regulations. The operation codenamed “Speed”, carried out on the roads of Lower Silesia, was also intended to instil in those found committing offences the awareness that driving at excessive speed is dangerous—not only for them, but also for other road users.
Officers conducted the operation in places where the greatest number of hazards related to drivers’ failure to comply with the applicable traffic regulations occur. During the operation, police officers used, among other things, video recorders, laser speed meters and devices for measuring alcohol content in the body.
The officers inspected more than 1,600 vehicles in total, nearly 80% of them in connection with speeding violations. Twenty-six drivers lost their driving licences for flagrantly violating the applicable speed limits in built-up areas.
Concerned for the safety of people travelling on the roads of Lower Silesia, police officers once again appeal for prudence and compliance with traffic regulations. They also remind drivers how important it is to drive at a speed suited to the prevailing road conditions—that is, one that allows the driver to remain fully in control of the vehicle and, if necessary, stop before an obstacle appears or avoid it without unnecessary risk.
It is also worth emphasising that the consequences of “breaking” traffic regulations are not always suffered by those who commit the violations, because in many cases their recklessness causes other road users to suffer. Therefore, police officers will discipline drivers who, by travelling at excessive speed, may cause someone’s tragedy.
