At the base of the Pirat Bolesławiec Student Sailing Club, the first sailing ship of the City of Ceramics is being built—or, to be precise, a sailing boat. And it is an exceptional one because, as Jakub Jakubowski, head of UKŻ Pirat, points out, there probably is no other vessel like it—with 4 sails, 2 masts and gaff rigging—in all of Poland.
For two months, the young sailors have been working on building the aforementioned sailing boat in the literal sense; they are currently renovating the hull. The result will be that when the sailing ship sets off on its first voyage, the Bolesławiec “pirates” will know every nook and cranny of the boat inside out. According to Commander J. Jakubowski, this will translate into greater respect for the vessel and greater care for it.
When will it be launched?
The work is still under way and, as the head of Pirat emphasizes, there is no deadline. For now, the Bolesławiec sailors are also waiting for the sails to be sewn.
What will the boat be called?
It is not known yet. A competition for the name is to be announced soon.
