Last weekend, “Pirat” competitors had the opportunity to face sailors from Silesia in the InterPuchar Zagłębia regatta organized by Jacht Klub Pogoria in Dąbrowa Górnicza. Three sailors from UKŻ Pirat Bolesławiec competed in the ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 classes. The forecast strong winds were confirmed, and as many as five races took place on Saturday in extremely difficult conditions. The fact that one of Pirat’s competitors broke a mast is evidence of this.

After replacing the equipment, he returned to the regatta course and won the remaining three races, but the breakdown resulted in a loss of points. Ultimately, Jan Tesarowicz, competing in the ILCA 4 class, finished the regatta in third place, as there was not enough wind on Sunday and the races did not take place.

The competitor Sarah Hugeth deserves praise. Despite the crises she faced in the difficult conditions on Saturday, she did not give up or withdraw from the races. She was the only girl to finish all the races and ultimately placed fifth overall in the ILCA 6 class.

Despite the difficulties faced recently by Pirat’s competitors, they are not giving up and continue to fight and train just across the border at Berzdorfer See. The competitors train under the supervision of Dawid Poznański, who is a graduate of KS Turów Zgorzelec. Dawid joined the Pirat club’s staff four years ago and passes on his competitive experience to young sailors in the ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 classes.
