Criminal investigators from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra arrested a 31-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County suspected of a series of frauds committed under so-called recidivism, as well as illegal possession of a firearm. (While carrying out activities in this case, police officers from the Jelenia Góra headquarters cooperated with officers from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław and police officers from Legnica.)

On 17 March in Jelenia Góra, the man used another person’s details to rent an Audi worth PLN 80,000 from one of the companies. He did not intend to return it. Parts of the vehicle’s body were found at a scrap-metal yard in Lubin.

On 5 April, police attempted to arrest the man in Legnica. He was driving a Renault, but had no intention of stopping and, while fleeing, rammed four parked cars. A police officer who attempted to stop the fugitive used his service weapon. Unfortunately, the man escaped that day, and police found the vehicle he had been driving abandoned about an hour later.

The suspect was caught the following day in Bolesławiec, in the stairwell of one of the buildings. Police: – The man had a gas gun in his possession without the required permit, as well as various documents belonging to other people, which he most probably used during his criminal activities.

It also came to light that in September last year the man defrauded a resident of Karkonosze County. He showed the victim a forged confirmation of a PLN 3,000 transfer as payment for a Nissan worth PLN 8,000. In this way, he took possession of the car.

The 31-year-old was detained in police custody. He could now face up to eight years in prison for the crimes committed. On 8 April, the District Court in Jelenia Góra, at the prosecutor’s request, ordered three months of pre-trial detention.
