The incident took place on Tuesday, April 5. In the early morning, officers from the Joint Polish-German Facility in Świecko selected a cargo van for inspection. – The driver did not respond to the visual and audible signals ordering him to stop. The vehicle left the motorway and headed towards Słubice. Then, after the overpass, it re-entered the A2 motorway, this time driving against the direction of traffic – reports Major Joanna KonieczniakJoanna Konieczniak, press spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Oddział Straży Granicznej.

She adds:

At the MOP Gnilec service area, the driver suddenly turned around, and two people jumped out of the vehicle. The driver, however, continued his escape, this time again heading towards Słubice. In Słubice, the vehicle turned into one of the streets, which was blocked by a Border Guard patrol. The driver jumped out of the vehicle and fled towards nearby bushes.

It turned out that the abandoned van contained two motorcycles—a Triumph Tiger Sport and a Ducati Monster 797—with German license plates. They had been stolen in Berlin just a few hours earlier. Border Guard officers estimated the value of the recovered vehicles at PLN 90,000.

The van and motorcycles were secured in a guarded parking lot.
