A major fire service celebration took place on Friday, March 11, in Bolesławiec. First, uniformed officers from the Bolesławiec County Headquarters of the State Fire Service were presented with a new rescue-and-firefighting vehicle worth more than PLN 1 million, and then the firefighters from OSP Krzyżowa officially received a new vehicle.
The county commander of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec, Brigadier Andrzej Śliwowski, referred to the situation beyond our eastern border:
The Bolesławiec fire service units joined efforts to help firefighters from Ukraine; so far, we have transferred a significant amount of equipment, as well as a used rescue-and-firefighting vehicle.
He added:
In view of the current situation and our country’s involvement in providing humanitarian aid to refugees from areas affected by war, may today’s ceremony be a symbol of the readiness of our fire service in Bolesławiec County to support civil protection efforts and provide humanitarian aid.
Senior Brigadier Rafał Lik, head of the Control and Reconnaissance Division at the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Wrocław, also spoke:
I hope that you will take care of these beautiful vehicles and use them to help the community.
And he wished them:
May every call-out end positively, and may you return safely to your fire stations and units.
The ceremony was also an opportunity to present promotions and bid farewell to two firefighters who retired after a long and distinguished service. One of them was Janusz Wilk, who was also honoured for his photographic reporting work for the Bolesławiec command. (Readers of istotne.pl have repeatedly had the opportunity to view his excellent photographs in our pages—mainly from firefighting operations, though not exclusively).
That day, two uniformed officers also joined the Bolesławiec fire service.
It is worth adding that during Friday’s ceremony, Jarosław Nenkin, head of the Volunteer Fire Service in Trzebień, was officially presented with the decision of the Chief Commander of the State Fire Service stating that the aforementioned unit had been incorporated into the National Rescue and Firefighting System.
