Officers from the District Police Headquarters in Żagań arrested a 45-year-old man, a resident of Żagań County, who, while working as a postman, had not delivered correspondence since August last year. – At the man’s place of residence, officers discovered and secured more than 1,150 letters. They were official and private letters – reports Senior Sergeant Arkadiusz Szlachetko from the Żagań District Police Headquarters. – The letters that required the recipient’s signature upon delivery were signed by the postman himself.
What was the postman doing on the day he was arrested?
In the morning, the man collected the correspondence, but instead of delivering it to the recipients, he went to... his home. That was where the uniformed officers found him. It is worth noting that at the time of his arrest, the 45-year-old was completely drunk; he had a blood alcohol level of 2 per mille.
How did the suspect explain himself?
The 45-year-old explained to the officers that he had too little time during the day and that he was not always able to deliver all the letters.
The undelivered correspondence was handed over to Poczta Polska. The dishonest employee faces up to two years in prison.
