Last Friday, the first clinic for refugees from Ukraine in our county was opened at the Zespół Opieki Zdrowotnej in Bolesławiec. Importantly, it will provide, among other services, psychological consultations.
Among the Ukrainians who have recently arrived at the county hospital are children suffering from infections, patients infected with COVID-19, as well as those requiring further surgical treatment.
For now, the clinic operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. And there is no language barrier, because, among others, Ludmiła Hrushkevych, a Polish woman with Ukrainian citizenship who crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border on February 26, will work there:
I am very happy to be taking part in this wonderful project to help refugees from Ukraine. The Ukrainian nation now needs this help very much: medical, psychological and other assistance.
Ms Ludmiła left the country invaded by Putin’s Russia together with her mother and her younger, 17-year-old son. The family lived in the city of Khmelnytskyi. On the first day of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the invaders attacked a military airport there.
It is worth adding that Ms Ludmiła is privately the mother of the doctor Vitaliiego Hrushkevycha, a neurologist who has been working at the county hospital in Bolesławiec since March last year. Asked whether the medics expect crowds of patients, the doctor replied that every patient—regardless of whether they are Ukrainian or non-Ukrainian—will receive help, because medicine has no nationality.
And as Marek Stefanik, head of the specialist clinics at the ZOZ in Bolesławiec, assures us, the operation of the aforementioned clinic for refugees does not interfere with the functioning of the other specialist clinics, especially since they all operate in a newly renovated building, where a separate office has been designated for our eastern neighbors.
He also adds that no Ukrainian citizen who crossed the border after February 24 has to worry about covering the costs of treatment.
