The incident took place on February 23, at around 12:00. The duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski received a report about an unusual find near the village of Skorzynice. Sergeant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer for the Lwówek police:

At the scene, officers determined that while out walking in the forest, a man had found unexploded ordnance from World War II. A police bomb-disposal specialist identified it as an artillery shell.

The ordnance was dealt with by soldiers from the Patrol Saperski Bolesławiec.
