This concerns the Construction School Complex. The value of the project “Improving the energy efficiency of the buildings of the Construction School Complex in Bolesławiec” significantly exceeds PLN 3 million (European Regional Development Fund). The scope of work primarily includes insulating the external walls, damp-proof injection of the internal and external basement walls, insulating sections of the roof and ceilings, replacing window and door joinery, replacing the central-heating system, and replacing the lighting with energy-efficient LED lighting. A micro-photovoltaic installation will also be installed. Work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of this year.

– I think this is good news – emphasizes Bolesławiec County Head Tomasz Gabrysiak. – This will be another school to be modernized, thereby meeting the requirements of a modern educational institution. It will also enable considerable savings in day-to-day operations, given the steadily rising energy prices.

Youth Cultural Centre and the Old Theatre, the School Complex of Commerce and Services

The Youth Cultural Centre, the School Complex of Commerce and Services and the Old Theatre can also expect a major transformation and conservation work this year. Construction work in the historic buildings will include the modernization of basements, internal circulation routes and parts of the educational rooms: classrooms and art studios.
The work will include installing vertical and horizontal damp-proof insulation, removing damp and mold-damaged plaster, and applying new renovation plaster. In addition, the outdoor areas around the buildings will be partially reconstructed.

Once the buildings have been modernized, additional rooms that currently cannot be used will become available. Teaching and educational activities in the rooms used by children and young people will take place under improved conditions. The dried-out basement rooms may also serve as studios, exhibition spaces or storage rooms.

The revitalization of the outdoor areas will improve their practical and spatial qualities. Consequently, it will have a positive impact on the image of the individual institutions. The investment will improve the facilities’ operating conditions and reduce maintenance costs. Construction work under the project “Modernization of the Historic Educational Buildings of Bolesławiec County” will last 18 months, and PLN 5 million has been secured for this purpose.

General Secondary School No. 1

This renovation drive continues the major educational investments carried out in 2021. General Secondary School No. 1 has been thoroughly transformed. Its interiors have gained a modern appearance and, most importantly, have been adapted to current fire-safety requirements.

More than PLN 400,000 was allocated to a completely new version of the sports hall at General Secondary School No. 1, including the renovation of the facilities and the smaller rooms adjacent to the main hall, changing rooms, the stairwell and the fitness room.

However, students had long been waiting for new specialist sports fields. As part of the project “Construction of a Sports Complex at General Secondary School No. 1,” a three-lane circular track with a nominal length of 160 m and a synthetic surface was built, together with a straight section and a long-jump pit. Inside the track, a multi-purpose synthetic-surface court was created for handball, basketball, volleyball and tennis, as well as a badminton court. Students also have access to a beach-volleyball court. Outdoor gym equipment was installed on a synthetic surface, along with a steel, two-row stand with 27 seats. The total value of the project is just under PLN 2.5 million.

Electronic School Complex

Earlier, the neighboring school—the Electronic School Complex—underwent a true transformation. Almost PLN 2 million was allocated to the distinctive red-brick building of Bolesławiec’s “Elektronik.” The investment included work to adapt the building to fire-safety and sanitary requirements. As a result, new, safer stairwells were created; they were enclosed and fitted with fire doors and signaling equipment.

In addition, a water-supply system with internal hydrants was installed in the building. The modernization work also improved sanitary conditions in the ground-floor rooms, while the upper floors received completely new, practical flooring. The corridors and stairwells also underwent a thorough facelift. The roof and the western section of the building’s façade were renovated.

School Dormitory

Residents of the School Dormitory also experienced a new standard. Renovated corridors and rooms, modern kitchen equipment, new furniture in most rooms, photo wallpapers in the kitchens and corridors, and higher-standard equipment enabling the dormitory to meet epidemiological requirements—these are just some of the changes. All this was made possible by funds obtained by Bolesławiec County from the Government Local Investment Fund under the program “Safer During the Pandemic—Reconstruction of the School Dormitory in Bolesławiec”.
Bolesławiec County received PLN 400,000 in funding to carry out the project. Importantly, as conditions in the dormitory improve, the educational offer of Bolesławiec County also benefits in terms of providing accommodation for young people who do not live in Bolesławiec.

And it is excellent news for students and parents that the quality of county education, recognized in independent rankings, goes hand in hand with the increasingly high quality and functionality of school buildings.
