A man called the police because he had caught and locked up a burglar. He was lying—he had caught no one

The incident occurred on Saturday, February 5, before 7:00 a.m. on Małachowskiego Street in Bolesławiec. The apartment’s owner reported to the police that someone had broken in and that he had locked the burglar inside the property. Police officers urgently went to the scene. When they arrived, it turned out that no one was in the apartment.

The man will be charged under Article 66 of the Code of Petty Offenses (anyone who, intending to provoke an unnecessary action, misleads a public utility institution or an authority responsible for security, public order or health with false information or in any other way is subject to arrest, restriction of liberty or a fine of up to PLN 1,500), and the case will be referred to court.
