A reader wrote to us via WhatsApp that on January 24 he experienced a rather unusual situation—although, unfortunately, one that has been occurring frequently lately. A resident of the Nowogrodziec municipality:

A man claiming to be a bank consultant called me and said that someone had tried to transfer PLN 700 from my account, but they had detected and prevented it. And now they urgently needed to confirm my personal details.

The person reporting the incident continued:

The man spoke broken Polish and had a strange accent. I hung up quickly and called my bank to inform them about the situation.

He added:

It turned out that someone had hacked their number. Could you warn people?

WARNING! Requests of this kind are fraud. If the reader had told the criminals who he was, they would probably, seeing that he had already taken the bait, have tried to obtain his online banking password and then get their hands on his savings.

Don’t be fooled. Report every situation of this kind to the police!
