Today, another record number of infections was reported:

  • 36 665 – the number of new infections across the country,
    248 people died, including 67 solely due to infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus;
  • 3,203 – the number of new infections in Lower Silesia,
    the number of deaths: 13, including 7 solely due to infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus;
  • 80 – the number of new infections in Bolesławiec County,
    1 death.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said during Friday’s press conference:

All countries affected by the Omicron mutation are recording record waves of infections.

How does the government intend to counter this situation?

  • Starting January 27, it will be possible to take a free antigen test for COVID-19 at pharmacies.
  • The quarantine period will be shortened to 7 days.
  • People aged 60 and over will have to be examined by a primary care physician within 48 hours of being diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
