Residents of Widok Street—or, more precisely, its side branch—have once again asked us to intervene. One of them wrote in an email to the editorial office:

A request to publicize the tragic condition of Widok Street—side branch. After setting the budget for 2022, the city authorities are once again ignoring the matter of repairing the road, repeatedly rejecting letters written by the street’s residents (at least twice a year), claiming that the city cannot afford to repair the road, even though on the neighboring estate roads are being replaced with “newer ones.”

He added:

We feel overlooked because we pay taxes, just like other city residents. And the road looks as shown in the attachment, which makes normal passage by car difficult, let alone walking.

Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for Bolesławiec City Hall:

Bolesławiec City Hall continues to seek opportunities to finance or co-finance the costs of carrying out the project “construction of Widok Street—side branch (passage under the railway embankment).” By February 15 of this year, the submission of another application (the second call round) is planned for the Government Polish Deal Fund: Strategic Investment Programme, concerning the construction and modernization of road infrastructure in Bolesławiec, including the construction of Widok Street (the branch leading to the tunnel).

The project involving the construction of Widok Street—side branch (passage under the railway embankment) has already been the subject of applications for government funding three times. Applications were submitted to the Local Government Roads Fund (in 2019 and 2020) and the Government Polish Deal Fund: Strategic Investment Programme (2021), but they were not approved for co-financing from the state budget.

She adds:

The cost of carrying out the project “construction of Widok Street—side branch (passage under the railway embankment)” is approximately PLN 720,000. The project is included in the catalogue of road construction, repair, reconstruction and modernization projects in Bolesławiec. Once savings or additional funds become available, the road will be built.
