The entire incident took place on January 6, at around 12:30 p.m. “A resident of Lubin approached a police officer and reported seeing a man running with a child in his arms. The baby was wearing only a onesie. The girl’s father, meanwhile, was barefoot and without a jacket,” reports Asp. Sgt. Sylwia Serafin, press officer for the District Police Headquarters in Lubin.
It is worth noting that the air temperature was close to 0°C at the time, while the perceived temperature was much lower because of strong gusts of wind and snowfall.
The head of the traffic division was the first to arrive at the scene and attempted to stop the irresponsible man. The latter, however, ran away. While struggling with the intervening officer, he went through a closed entrance gate into the post office courtyard. (Earlier, he had managed to place the small, crying child on the ground on the other side of the gate.)
The 43-year-old was aggressive and agitated. He did not respond to any orders.
Spokeswoman:
Seeing the entire situation, a traffic police officer securing the Three Kings Procession jumped over the fence together with another man who rushed to help the officer. In one of the property’s passageways, the officer found the man in a semi-seated position, clutching a crying, frightened and freezing child in his arms.
The infant’s father initially did not respond to orders. He eventually handed the baby to the civilian who intervened, and the man gave the 4-month-old girl to one of the police officers.
The child calmed down in the arms of the woman who had notified the authorities about the incident. The baby was then handed over to a community police officer, who covered her with a fleece blanket and warmed her in the police car until the emergency medical team arrived.
Fortunately, the 4-month-old girl suffered no injuries. She was placed in foster care.
Her father, meanwhile, was taken to a police cell. He now faces up to five years in prison.
Officers:
Special recognition and thanks are due to the woman who reported the entire situation to the police, as well as to the man who helped the officer during the intervention. Thanks to their actions, the child is safe and healthy and in good care.
