Explosions at the training ground in Świętoszów – why are they sometimes perceptible, among other places, in nearby towns such as Trzebień, and even in the Starzyński housing estate in Bolesławiec?

As Major Marek Sobieszek, head of the training ground department at the Training Ground Training Centre in Żagań, explains, this is related to weather conditions. These include, for example, air pressure and a low cloud base. All of this can cause the sound wave to travel “better”.

The major added that research shows these activities are not harmful to the surroundings. Nevertheless, it happens that this type of military activity is perceptible in areas where one would not even expect it.
