The whole story began on November 30, in the morning, in Bolesławiec. A man stole a Fiat Ducato vehicle and drove away. As junior aspirant Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław reports:
During their shift, officers from the Police Station in Olszyna noticed a vehicle [...] that might have been stolen and was traveling toward Lubań.
The uniformed officers signaled the driver to stop. However, he did not do so; on the contrary, he began to flee. The Lubań County Police Headquarters duty officer and patrols on duty were informed of the incident.
Spokeswoman:
The police pursuit ended on a dirt road, just after the driver lost control of the van and veered off the road, abandoning the vehicle with its engine running. He continued his escape on foot toward the swampy forests.
The search for the man did not last long. Olszyna police officers spotted him lying among the bushes, in the mud.
The suspect was arrested and taken to police custody. The vehicle stolen in Bolesławiec was transported to a police parking lot.
The driver turned out to be a 28-year-old resident of Lubań County. The man's behavior indicated that he might have been driving under the influence of drugs, so blood was taken from him for further testing.
Criminal investigators from Lubań and Wrocław joined the operation. Junior aspirant Aleksandra Pieprzycka:
As a result of operational work and the evidence collected, the next day the suspect was charged with vehicle burglaries in Bolesławiec and Świeradów-Zdrój. It also emerged that he was subject to an active driving ban, for which he received additional charges.
She added:
However, that is not all—he will also be held responsible for driving under the influence of psychotropic substances and failing to stop for a roadside inspection.
In total, the man, who has already been remanded in custody for three months, was presented with 10 charges. Proceedings in the case are ongoing. For the burglaries alone, the 28-year-old faces a prison sentence of between one and 10 years.
