The fourth wave has unfortunately accelerated significantly. On October 25, as many as 34 patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus were staying at the hospital in Bolesławiec, with 6 on ventilators. As many as 10 people were admitted over the weekend.
As the head of the ZOZ in Bolesławiec, Kamil Barczyk, says, the situation resembles that of last autumn. Older people are once again being admitted to the hospital. In spring this year, the facility mainly admitted patients aged 40–50.
What is more, among the hospitalized seniors with COVID are... vaccinated people as well. Although none of the vaccinated people at the Bolesławiec facility has died yet, there have been cases in which such patients required ventilators. The situation is therefore serious, and the ZOZ management appeals to the older residents of our county to receive a third dose. This is all the more important because some seniors were vaccinated quite some time ago, and it would now be worthwhile to “boost” their immunity.
(For the sake of accuracy, the number of unvaccinated people admitted to the COVID ward is still much higher than the number of those who are fully vaccinated).
Our hospital has 150 COVID beds and 40 ventilator spaces. If the pandemic continues to intensify at this pace, there is a risk that the ZOZ’s main resources will once again be directed toward fighting COVID-19.
