– Officers from the Police Station in Kruszyna, together with district officers from Bolesławiec, arrested after a chase a man who had stolen a vehicle several dozen minutes earlier. The perpetrator had nearly 3‰ of alcohol in his system and was subject to an active court-imposed driving ban – reports asp. szt. Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the County Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec. – The 39-year-old took advantage of the fact that the victim had left his car with the keys in the ignition in front of a shop in the Nowogrodziec municipality. When the duty officer received information about the theft, he immediately dispatched police officers to check the nearby area.
Officers spotted the stolen vehicle on the road leading into Bolesławiec. The driver ignored the officers’ audible and visual signals and began fleeing, violating a number of traffic regulations in the process. The man drove into the opposite lane, forcing other drivers to make sudden manoeuvres, failed to yield the right of way, and even entered an intersection against a red light. Police officers blocked the fugitive’s path and arrested him.
Spokeswoman:
The 39-year-old, being intoxicated [prawie 3 promile – przyp. istotne.pl], by his conduct created a direct danger to land traffic. The man had previously been convicted of theft and driving while intoxicated.
The Wielkopolska resident, who was temporarily staying in Lower Silesia, was remanded in custody for three months. He now faces a sentence of between six months and as much as eight years in prison.
To recap, the incident took place on Wednesday, October 20, before 1 p.m. Several police cars chased a man fleeing in a Honda Civic. The man was arrested near Grunwaldzka Street in Bolesławiec.
