Volunteer firefighters from Nowogrodziec:

On 21–23 October 2021, we took part in 18 rescue and firefighting interventions. Most of them were caused by strong winds that damaged many trees and buildings. We removed fallen trees and broken branches, and secured roofs and dangerous elements at height. We operated in Nowogrodziec, Gierałtów, Gościszów, Ocice, Zabłocie, Nowa Wieś, Brzeźnik, Tomaszów Bolesławiecki, Świętoszów, Bolesławiec and Radogoszcz.

They added:

The most dangerous incident related to the strong winds occurred in Nowogrodziec, on Młyńska Street, where a 20-metre-high tree fell to the ground during the operation, damaging an outbuilding.

They further explained:

Ropes were attached to a farm tractor and the tree, and the tree was then guided so that it would not fall onto the residential building. There was some damage, but a few square metres of roof on a small shed was nothing compared with the damage the tree could have caused had it fallen onto an occupied building.

Fortunately, no one was injured.
