It was a close call, and a tragedy could have occurred. Heavy tree-felling equipment was operating near the place where the mine was found.

They add:

The poor condition of the mine’s fuze made it impossible to remove it. Therefore, the commander of the Bomb-Disposal Patrol decided to destroy it where it was found.

What should you do if you find unexploded ordnance?

The soldiers advise:

  1. Do not touch such objects.
  2. Secure the area against access by bystanders (e.g. children) and mark the place where the object was found.
  3. Immediately report it by calling the emergency number 112, the Police, Municipal Police, Fire Service or Forestry Service.
