TOP Bolesławiec’s volleyball players cannot break their losing streak. Bogusław Mienculewicz’s charges suffered their fourth consecutive defeat. On Saturday (20 February), Ren-But II Złotoryja proved too strong for the Bolesławiec team. Bolesławiec are still playing with a very depleted squad. An injury ruled Mariusz Zaręba out of the game. Piotr Induła had to leave to study. An injury ruled Marcin Lelek out of the game. Paweł Wiatrowski, who complained of knee pain, was also unable to appear in the starting six.
TOP began the match against Ren-But II Złotoryja with an unusual lineup. Because of the shortage of players, the team’s former libero took on the role of attacker: Kamil Biczak. The “libero” did quite well in attack. Things went worse for Tomasz Pawlik, who replaced Kamil as libero. Unfortunately, the first set ended with a 25:21 defeat for Bolesławiec. In the second set, the roles were reversed. TOP dominated in almost every aspect of the game and defeated the Złotoryja volleyball players 25:21. In the third set, TOP played as it had in the first. The visitors were in control throughout and won the set 25:19. The fourth set almost brought a surprise. The visitors were already leading 18:11, but TOP rallied and reduced the deficit to two points. Andrzej Dąbrowski and Piotr Kozłowski put in good performances. The end of the set was tense for the visitors. With the visitors leading 23:21, their coach called a timeout. Unfortunately, Ren-But also won the fourth set, 25:22. TOP lost the match 1:3.
Despite the defeat, the Bolesławiec team showed that they were not lacking in fighting spirit. The standout players in the match were attacker “libero” Kamil Biczak, Andrzej Dąbrowski, Piotr Kozłowski and Sławomir Potocki. Following Saturday’s defeat, TOP are seventh in the league table.
