The Higher Regional Court in Düsseldorf, western Germany, placed 25-year-old Dominik H. under police supervision, deeming it a sufficient preventive measure. As a result, the man is now free, Radio ZET reported.
Attorney Rajmund Niwiński, the suspect’s representative, told the nationwide media outlet:
Dominik H. may stay at his place of residence in Germany until the extradition case is heard. The 25-year-old does not consent to extradition. His trial may take many months.
Let us recall. The tragedy occurred on Sunday, June 6, at approximately 3:35 p.m., on the W352 road from Zgorzelec to Bogatynia, near the village of Koźmin (Zgorzelec County). “An Audi and a Volkswagen were involved in the incident. Unfortunately, a three-year-old child died as a result of the injuries sustained,” said sub-inspector Agnieszka Goguł, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec, at the time.
The perpetrator fled the scene without providing assistance to the injured. On June 11, the prosecutor’s office issued a wanted notice for Dominik H. Later, media outlets in Zgorzelec reported that H. had been arrested by German police on Friday, July 16.
The 25-year-old faces a sentence of between two and twelve years in prison. We will certainly return to the subject.
