The incident occurred on August 5 in the evening. “Pyrotechnicians from the Border Guard Post in Wrocław-Strachowice received information from the Airport Security Service about an abandoned travel bag. The luggage had been left in a women’s restroom located in the publicly accessible area of Wrocław Airport,” reports Border Guard Major Joanna Konieczniak, press spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Branch.
She added:
The risk analysis conducted by Border Guard officers did not allow them to unambiguously rule out a threat, particularly since—despite repeated announcements—no one came forward to claim the luggage.
The result? The full procedure used in such cases was implemented: a pyrotechnic-intervention patrol was sent to the designated area.
The spokesperson said: “After an initial bomb-disposal and pyrotechnic inspection, and in consultation with the services responsible for security at the airport, a decision was made to evacuate approximately 400 passengers located in the departures area, both outside and inside the terminal.”
As it turned out, there was no threat; the luggage was safe. However, the officers established the identity of the bag’s owner. When the woman returns from Cyprus, she will answer for the offense committed. What is more, the bomb-disposal and pyrotechnic operations, as well as the evacuation of the terminal, caused a delay to the aircraft scheduled to depart for London and Corfu.
