– Officers from the Traffic Division of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters stopped a vehicle for inspection on the A4 motorway. The 43-year-old driver initially claimed that he was going to Belgium, then changed his account of the route he had already travelled several times, reports junior warrant officer Aleksandra Pieprzycka of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
The officers’ attention was drawn to the raised cargo compartment. Spokesperson:
The experienced officers suspected that illegal goods might be hidden inside, so officers from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office, who arrived at the scene, joined the operation.
The result? Nearly 600,000 cigarettes without Polish excise stamps were seized. Junior warrant officer A. Pieprzycka said: “The total value of the seized illegal tobacco products resulted in a loss to the State Treasury of PLN 660,000.”
The 43-year-old Ukrainian citizen was detained. The case was taken over by the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office – the Wrocław Customs Office.
