The incident took place on 17 May. “Officers from the Criminal Division of the District Police Headquarters in Lubań, travelling in a service vehicle on the Lubań–Leśna route, noticed a car whose driver was not complying with traffic regulations. The officers decided to stop the Ford for a check,” reports asp. szt. Justyna Bujakiewicz-Rodzeń, press officer for the Lubań police.

The officers signalled to the traffic offender to stop. However, he accelerated sharply and then braked. The spokesperson said: “On a busy road, he drove in an exceptionally dangerous manner, including overtaking other vehicles, thereby creating a real threat to the life and health of road users.

The fugitive was stopped in Leśna shortly after he drove his car without any resistance into an unmarked police car. As a result of the collision with the police vehicle, the 31-year-old, who had no permanent place of residence, lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree. But that was not the end of it. The 31-year-old jumped out of the car and began to flee. He was apprehended after several minutes.

Staff Sergeant Justyna Bujakiewicz-Rodzeń:

The man was sober when arrested, but a preliminary test with a police drug tester showed that he was under the influence of narcotic substances. During the investigation, officers took a blood sample for laboratory testing.

The 31-year-old was remanded in custody for three months. He faces a prison sentence of between one and as many as ten years.
