– Officers from the Lubin traffic police received a report that a probably intoxicated man had got into a Peugeot and driven away, reports asp. szt. Sylwia Serafin, press officer for the District Police Headquarters in Lubin.

In one of the housing estates, officers spotted the car described by the caller. They stopped the driver for a roadside check. It turned out to be a 38-year-old resident of Lubin, who immediately admitted that he did not have a driving licence.

The driver was sober, but this was practically the only thing that could be counted in his favor. The spokeswoman said:

Officers checked the police databases and found that, since February this year, the man had been subject to an active four-year ban on driving motor vehicles imposed by the Lubin District Court. During that period, he should not have got behind the wheel at all. Another patrol had seized the vehicle’s registration certificate in December last year. In addition, the driver did not have the compulsory third-party liability insurance for the vehicle.

She added:

After inspecting the car, it also came to light that the 38-year-old had fitted the front of the vehicle with registration plates belonging to another car.

The car was removed from the road at the owner’s expense. The man will face charges for violating the court-ordered ban, which is a crime punishable by between three and as many as five years in prison. In addition, officers filed a notification with the Insurance Guarantee Fund, which may result in a substantial financial penalty.
