Through this project, you can preserve the memory of your ancestors: all those who, while living here, influenced the present shape of our city and county over the years. If these are your roots, please contact us. We would like to describe your stories. We also want to preserve the biographies of people who have already passed away. If your ancestor is no longer alive, you can tell us about them or write about them. We will speak with those who remember them well, know their story and possess relevant memorabilia and documents connected with their life. We will write that person’s biography.
The idea behind the “Saving from Oblivion” project is to record and publish in book form the memories of successive groups of re-emigrants who arrived in the Bolesławiec region in the 1940s and 1950s. Between 2013 and 2016, the initiative was carried out by the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec and Gimnazjum Samorządowe No. 2 named after Poles Deported to Siberia, in cooperation with Bolesławiec schools and associations: the Bolesławiec branch of the Siberians’ Association, the Bolesławiec branch of the Society of Friends of Lviv and the South-Eastern Borderlands, the Polish-French Cooperation Society in Wrocław, and the Association of Re-emigrants from Bosnia, Their Descendants and Friends. The four volumes published so far contain 252 biographies. Their preparation involved 310 students and 50 teachers. The following collections of memories have been published to date: We Had No Childhood. Memories of Bolesławiec Siberians (2013), Saving from Oblivion. Memories of Bolesławiec Residents from the Eastern Borderlands (2014), Everything Was Different Here. Memories of Bolesławiec Re-emigrants from France, edited by K. Dudek (2015), and Taking Land from the Wilderness. Memories of Bolesławiec Re-emigrants from Yugoslavia (2016).
