This year's celebrations of the holiday of the 23rd Artillery Regiment—due to the situation in the country and epidemic restrictions—were very modest and intimate. The ceremony was attended by the command staff of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, as well as newly appointed and distinguished soldiers.
The celebrations began with soldiers' delegation laying flowers beneath the plaque commemorating the patron of the 23rd Artillery Regiment—Lieutenant General Tadeusz Jordan Rozwadowski.
“Today we are celebrating a special day in our soldiers’ Bolesławiec community. The Holiday of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment expresses our remembrance of the achievements of our predecessors and bears witness to our attachment to artillery traditions,” said the regiment commander, Colonel Marek Wasielewski, in the first part of his address to those gathered.
The high point of the ceremony was the presentation of reconnaissance pennants introduced by decision No. 180 of the Minister of National Defence. In response to the words spoken by the commander of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, “On behalf of the service, I present you with this reconnaissance pennant,” the commanders of all subunits proudly replied, “For the glory of the Fatherland.”
The ceremonial assembly provided an opportunity to award the “Commemorative Badge of the 23rd Silesian Regiment” to soldiers who had carried out their official duties with particular dedication and personal commitment. During the further part of the assembly, personnel and commemorative orders were read out, under which newly appointed soldiers received appointment documents, while distinguished soldiers received letters of congratulations.
Colonel Wasielewski:
For every military unit, its holiday is a special day. The Holiday of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment celebrated today provides an opportunity to review the regiment’s training activities to date. It is also an opportunity to emphasize our affiliation with the 11th “Lubuska” Armoured Cavalry Division, for which we carry out a range of tasks and projects. Today we pay tribute and give thanks for the effort and dedication of our predecessors, while the reconnaissance pennants presented today will represent the heritage and proud traditions of Polish artillerymen.
The final element of the ceremony was a parade of the subunits, during which the distinguished and newly appointed soldiers marched to the rhythm of “Warszawianka.”
