On Friday, December 11, soldiers from the 23 BA celebrated the Rocket Forces and Artillery Holiday. The main celebrations began with a ceremonial assembly by the plaque commemorating soldiers of artillery units whose traditions are upheld by the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade.
Among those attending the ceremony were Lwówek County head Artur Zych, Bolesławiec County head Cezary Przybylski, deputy Bolesławiec County head Stanisław Chwojnicki, County Council chairman Karol Stasik, deputy mayor of Bolesławiec Maciej Małkowski, City Council chairwoman Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk, secretary of Bolesławiec Municipality Andrzej Dutkowski, head of Gromadka Municipality Dariusz Pawliszczy, Dean Andrzej Jarosiewicz and head of the Bolesławiec police Grzegorz Chirowski.
During the assembly, Colonel Roman Kłosiński, commander of the Brigade, presented diplomas to subunits that achieved the best training results and honored retired senior platoon sergeant Janusz Raczego for exemplary military service, an exemplary attitude and soldiers’ commitment to the mission in Iraq.
There were gifts as well. That day, the Lwówek County head officially handed a new metal detector over to the sappers’ patrol.
Colonel Kłosiński thanked the artillerymen for their hard work. “Your effort gives you satisfaction from what you do and is a good forecast for the future,” he said. To those who had left for Afghanistan, the Brigade commander wished a safe return home.
Later in the ceremony, a roll call of remembrance was read and a ceremonial salvo was fired. The ceremony concluded with the laying of flowers beneath the plaque commemorating soldiers of artillery units. The flowers were laid, among others, by delegations of veterans and local government officials.
